I am very interested in online teaching and learning, so I decided to apply to teach with Georgia Virtual School. The simple process began by registering with the TOOL Digital Community and continues with the development of a blog that will serve as my professional portfolio. Currently, I have 2 professional e-portfolios that have not been updated recently, but they have served me well in the past. They are listed below for reference purposes. I look forward to developing my technological pedagogy and I am excited to continue my work as a Spanish Teacher with the support of the TOOL online learning community. Teacher Portfolio Educational Leadership Portfolio TOOL Website Exemplar Tool Blog Blended Learning Proposal...As a Spanish Teacher with more than 8 years of experience, the idea of utilizing technology and teaching to inform each other in a way that makes language acquisition dynamic and customizable is of upmost interest to me. The challenge that I have faced with a traditional teaching model has been reaching students of varying learning styles consistently and effectively. Blended learning is the solution to that challenge! If selected to participate in the KAC Instructional Technology Pilot, I intend to utilize Chromebooks in class at least 3 times a week. In combination with online instruction and practice, class time will be utilized for small group direct instruction, partnered communicative activities as well as formative and summative performance-based assessments.
Students will use Chromebooks to view instructional videos and supporting materials, such as PowerPoints and notes. Students will also use Chromebooks to listen to audio and video files, then complete aligned instructional activities to reinforce listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. The primary content I intend to use will be Rosetta Stone Dynamic Immersion software. Dynamic Immersion, is a method that combines advanced interactive technology with native speakers and a rich visual environment to mimic the complete immersion process we used to learn our first language. Furthermore, students will access Class Zone to further reinforce material taught in videos and in class. I will manage the course content using the Aprendizaje Semipresencial (Blended Learning) page on my customized class website. Finally, students will independently create an e-portfolio, using LiveBinders, which demonstrates evidence of mastery of objectives. Students will be able to use e-portfolios beyond the high school classroom in college and in the workplace. My extensive experience in teaching Spanish makes me the perfect candidate for this pilot and I truly look forward to the possibility of implementing this innovative initiative of blended learning to increase student achievement and language acquisition. |
